Manufacturing Process

Increase the power of your Chevrolet Silverado with a Ram Air Hood from APM. This Ram Air Hoods are made with a Resin Transfer Molding (RTM) production process allowing for a higher fiber count, resulting in a lighter weight hood with incredible strength. This process is unique to APM’s manufacturing of fiberglass hoods with no other manufacturer utilizing the process.  Easy installation process with no prior body shop experience is needed. APM’s hoods utilize the factory mounting hardware for installation. Simply remove factory bolts, remove factory hood, and replace with your new Ram Air Hood. Before leaving the warehouse, this Ram Air Hood is inspected by a team of quality control experts that search out any imperfections in the workmanship, ensuring you’ll receive the best product possible.

Superior Hoods:

We use a process called Vacuum Infusion with a closed molding process, consisting of a male mold and a female mold. We also use better resin called Vinylester Resin. With this process, all air is vacuumed out of the mold and the resin is pulled through the mold cavity and through the infusion matt fiberglass. As this occurs, all air and air bubbles are drawn out of the mold, leaving no voids that later expand called soft spots. As the part is drawing the resin in, it also compresses the mold, producing a very uniform and consistent part in thickness.

Our competitors make their hoods using a single-sided mold with inexpensive polyester resin and cheap fiberglass. They roll out the air bubbles with paint rollers by hand. This method makes for many air voids and uneven thickness, which leads to blisters or bubbles under the paint and warping as the part is exposed to the elements over time.

How Do Functional Ram Air Hoods Work And Add Performance? :

A Ram Air Intake is an intake design which uses the dynamic air pressure, created by vehicle motion, to increase the static air pressure, inside of the intake manifold, on an internal combustion engine. This allows for greater force through the engine and increases engine power. At higher road speeds, a Ram Air Intake can increase the speed and pressure of the air entering the engine’s intake, creating a resonance supercharging effect.

With our Functional Ram Air Hoods, air is forced into the hood scoops and channeled through the hood. The air then exits the hood directly above the air box, injecting fresh cold air. When utilizing a cold air intake, the intake will receive the cold air to increase horsepower, and also produce a higher quality, aggressive engine sound.
